Basic Leopard Gecko Care Guide

Overview

Leopard geckos are hardy, beginner-friendly reptiles that are easy to care for when provided with the correct setup.


Enclosure Setup

  • Minimum size: 50 x 35 x 35 cm (1 gecko)

  • Minimum Size: 60 x 45 x 35 cm (2 geckos)

  • Secure enclosure with proper ventilation

  • Do not house males together


Substrate

  • Safe: Paper towel

  • Avoid: Loose substrates (sand, calcium sand, etc.)


Hides (Essential)

You need 3 hides:

  • Warm hide

  • Cool hide

  • Humid hide 


Heating

  • Use a heat pad with thermostat to control the temperature

  • Warm side: 31–33°C

  • Cool side: 21–24°C

  • Always monitor temperatures


Lighting

  • No UVB required

  • Maintain a normal day/night cycle using an LED Light if needed


Humidity

  • Keep humidity at 30–40%


Feeding

  • Feed live insects:

    • Mealworms

    • Dubia roaches

    • Crickets

    • Silkworms

  • Treats: Superworms (occasionally)


Supplements

  • Dust food with:

    • Calcium + D3

    • Multivitamin

  • Provide a calcium dish


Water

  • Fresh water at all times

  • Change daily
